About Me

Welcome to the new year!  I can hardly wait to meet you all. I began teaching in 1982. and have taught both elementary and middle school.   My area of specialization are in English, with a focus in early adolescent literature, but I have also had training in computer technology, art,  and science.   I  attended a variety of workshops on reading and writing from presentors Cris Tovani, Isoka Nia, Randy Boomer, Barry Lane, Stephanie Harvey (to name a few).  I participated in the Writing Workshop in two states, twice at UCSD and once at the University of Utah.   I love middle school students with their sense of adventure and fairness, as well as their need to explore, grow and develop both socially and individually.  Their need to push their parameters and explore life's possibilities, as well as their need to question established paradigms makes teaching them exciting as well as challenging.  I look forward to the use of the new I21 classroom and hope the technology ; We currently use Chrome Books and most curriculm will be posted on Google Classroom and  We are striving to become a paperless classroom, and many assignments will be posted to one of these two sites.
Our classroom rules are:  Be Diligent,Have Integrity, Live with  Gusto!
Our classroom theme is: Our lives are the sum total of the choices we have made.

IMPORTANT:  You can have your student log in and you can check for any missing work on Power School... a ZERO means the assignment was not attempted or not complete enough to merit a score.  A BLANK means that assignment has not been graded yet  "m" means the assignment is missing, "l" means the assignment was submitted after the due date. Please be sure to check Power School  to see how your student is doing. The pages and the Goggle Classroom pages will allow you to see if your child has submitted his/her assignment. Please be sure your student submitted the correct version of his/her assignment, otherwise their grade may reflect an incompleted assignment.
It is best to communicate with me by email, as I check email daily. If you leave a phone message and I don't return your call, please try again as I return phone calls within 24 hours.
My philosophy of teaching is that all students can excel, if given the proper support and opportunities, and students will push themselves if properly challenged.   I will be focused on narrative, expository, and persuasive literacy genres in the areas of reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing.  Students will participate in book groups, literature circles, Socratic seminars, etc.  They will also work independently on reading projects and research projects.   All students are expected to keep a writing journal, and write in this journal four times a week.  All students are expected to read every night.  Homework will be posted daily, on my website.  Just look under the correct class period.  I will also post different power point presentations as well as links and guides on the 'English supplements and supports' page.  I look forward to meeting with you and working with you this year. It will be a fun and exciting, as well as a challenging adventure

I enjoy reading, swimming, drawing, painting and knitting.  I am currently learning how to update and remodel my mother's house. Just an FYI, You cannot learn to remodel a home using You Tube!
